Preparing your home for showings

When getting a home ready to launch on the market, we think about decluttering, deep cleaning and renovating (in some cases). But what about the actual days that showings are scheduled? What should sellers do to appeal to the prospective buyers visiting their home?

Here are a few tips and reminders:

  • Turn on all the lights
  • Open drapes and blinds
  • Remove clutter
  • Put away dirty dishes in the dishwasher or clean them
  • Vacuum floors
  • Wipe counters
  • Empty trash bins
  • Make the beds
  • Store clothes in hampers or closets
  • Store kids’ toys
  • Neutralize odours such as pet or smoke odours
  • Make sure the entrance is accessible
  • Mow the lawn, as needed
  • Make sure the house temperature is comfortable
  • Create a mood (ex.: light the fireplace, turn on soft music, drape fabrics over chair arms or sofa backs)

Many factors come into play when it’s time to prepare your home to launch on the market. We are here to guide through every step of the way.
