Holiday Decorating Trends

Nostalgia and tradition are two predominant themes for this upcoming holiday season. Lockdown restrictions meant we couldn’t celebrate the usual way last year. But this Christmas, as we slowly go back to normal, people are returning to their roots; realizing or remembering how important tradition is.

Decorations that evoke memories are taking the stage. More and more families are opting for a real Christmas tree and passed down ornaments that bring the sparkle of Christmas. Grandma’s iconic ceramic Christmas tree is also doing a major comeback. People are rummaging attics in search of vintage holiday decorations that are sure to bring back joyful memories. Lookup #CeramicChristmasTree or #VintageChristmasDecor on social media. You’ll be surprised how many posts you’ll see.

Sustainability is also at the centre of this holiday season’s décor. Earthy, muted, softer and rooted tones pulled from nature and raw materials resonate with this conscious consumer theme. Hand-crafted decorations using natural elements such as wood, recycled glass, dried plants and fruits, pinecones and fallen branches are trending. For example, front lawns are booming with Christmas trees made from recycled pallet wood.

As consumers are embracing eco-friendly items this year, supporting local businesses is also at the centre of their hearts. They are investing in products made by locals that will last forever in their holiday collection. Small businesses are the heartbeat of local communities. A few thoughtful purchases can truly be meaningful to them.

For the past 21 months, many people had to cut back on several things. But cutting back on Christmas cheer will not be one of them this season. Although we can’t predict what the future holds, one thing we can say for sure is this year’s Christmas will be particularly special. Now get out your ugly sweater and enjoy the holiday spirit and festivities!
